2010 year in review

It was a good year and it was a bad year.

I was only able to play about 15 rounds again this year however having a new born in the house was great. From doing nothing (but crying and pooping) to walking and having a personality during the year was amazing. We spent a lot of time with our new grandson partly because our daughter lives with us.

My best round was late summer at St James members Golf Club Southport, NC. Where I shot a 96.

My Goals for the 2009 were:

Putt 31-33 per round. My actual was 36 per round.

Fairways Hit - 10. My actual was 6 per round.

GIR - 7. My actual was 3 per round.

Score 92-98. My actual was 105 to 108 per round.

Break 90 on a 6000+ yard course no

Pars per round - 2. My actual was less than 1 per round.

Birdie's per round - 1. My actual was less than .5 per round.

Bogey's per round - 10. My actual was 5 per round.

Double Bogey's per round - 5. My actual was 10 per round.

Bad holes (triple Bogey or worse) - 0. My actual was 1.5 per round.

I made none of my goals so they will be my goals again in 2011.

I am coming to the conclusion that I need to practice more on everything with specific goals in mind not just hit a bucket of balls at lunch.

Brothers Golf Weekend 2009

We traveled to St Petersburg Florida for the 23th Annual Carraher Golf weekend at Tom's house. Tom, Bill, Dick, John, Scott and I played 5 rounds in 4 days. We played at Belleview Biltmore on Thursday afternoon then we played Legacy on Friday. On Saturday we played both courses at World Woods Rolling Oaks and Pine Barrows and we finished on Sunday at Sarasota National. Tom's boss joined us for the rounds on Friday and Sunday. Tom promised I would see alligators as they were all over the place in Florida.

I arrived Wednesday afternoon while Scott, Bill, Dick and Johnny arrived Thursday morning so our first round was scheduled for Thursday afternoon at the Belleview Biltmore this course was easily in the worst condition of all the courses we played. The drought was causing the fairways to be brown and the greens had many patches of burnout. Tom, Scott and Bill lead the weekend off with 96's followed by Dick with an even 100 and then Johnny at 112 and me at 113. It took us about 3 hours and 45 minutes to play and for the weekend we never went over 4 hours for a single round. We stopped for dinner at the Winghouse (Hooters Jr) and enjoyed some wings and burgers. Unfortunately no Alligators were sighted on Thursday.

On Friday morning we were joined at Legacy by Tom's boss from the hotel. Legacy was in decent condition but it was dry. We finished in the same order with Tom shooting an 88 followed by Bill and Scott at 94 and Dick at 96 then Johnny at 106 and I was again last at 109. A late afternoon swim and a dinner of Pizza were the way we closed out Friday. It took us about 3 hours and 30 minutes to play. However no Alligators were sighted on Friday.

On Saturday we planned a long day with 36 holes at World Woods. We had to head out early 5:30 AM for an almost 2 hour drive. We started on the Rolling Oaks course where Dick and I were allowed to watch Tom shoot his best round of his life with his first ever 79. Dick shot an 88 and I had a 111 in the other group Scott shot a 93, Bill had a 95 and Johnny had a 106. The morning round took us about 3 hours and 45 minutes to play. After a quick lunch we started out again on the Pine Barrows course for the second 18. This course proved more difficult for everyone and took us just shy of 4 hours to play. Dick lead the was with a 93 followed by Scott and Bill with 99's and Tom with a 100. Johnny and I dragged in with a 116 and 118 respectively. Again no Alligators were sighted on Saturday.

Sunday morning we were playing for the coveted Green Wind Breaker at Sarasota National. Based on our scores for the weekend I would receive the most strokes at 17 while Johnny got 14, Bill and Scott each received 4 and Dick got 3 while Tom had none. I played my best round of the weekend with a 106 but my net 89 was not good enough as Scott and Dick both netted 85. Since Dick only received 3 strokes he was named the winner over Scott who received 4 strokes. We went off first and finished in less than 3 a hours and 30 minutes. A two foot alligator was seen on the 13th hole confirming there are actually alligators in the area we played the weekend.

2008 year in review

It was a good year and it was a bad year.

I was only able to play 17 rounds for the year however in January my first Granduaghter was born so we spent a lot of time travelling to Norfolk Va to see her and her parents and at the end of June we went to our middle daughter's wedding in Hawaii.

My best round was mid summer at Ko Olina Golf Club Oahu Hawaii where I shot a 112 . It was my best round because of the location.

My Goals for the 2008 were:

Putt 31-33 per round. My actual was 36 per round.

Fairways Hit - 10. My actual was 6 per round.

GIR - 7. My actual was 3 per round.

Score 92-98. My actual was 105 to 108 per round.

Duke golf league

Bo and I started out 1-4-1 in the first half of the season before Bo dropped out with a back injury. Then my teammate and I won three straight to get into contention before I left for two weeks in Hawaii at my daughters wedding. Back in the continental US unfortunately a missed communication and my new partner having his worst round of the season (61) knocked us from contention for the final playoff spot so the last week if the regular season we played spoilers and stopped a team from moving up into the top half of the league ans possible playoff glory. We are now playing for a loser championship with the bottom half the league while the top half plays for the real money $250 and a trophy with their name on it.

This week we open up with Rooster Farm which is one of the teams I did not play against due to my Hawaii trip.

I split my match and lost by 2 net strokes but AJ split the first 6 holes of his match and was up by 7 strokes but lost the remaining holes so we ended up losing the match 14-7.

Now we play the final two weeks for nothing. We cannot even claim to be the winners of the losers tournament.

Ko Olina Golf Club Oahu Hawaii

I just added a new state - Hawaii - to my make 9 states I have played golf in. Due to my middle daughter getting married at Ko Olina Resort in Kapolei, Hawaii I had the opportunity to play with two of my brothers while we attended the wedding. The weather conditions were excellent with sunny skies, a high of 87 low winds and almost no humidity. The course was in excellent condition and we enjoyed the day thoroughly. I parred two holes and shot a 112 while Dick shot a 104 and Bill shot a 98.

Duke Golf League week seven

Team Bo-X is in DFL (Dead F*&^ing Last) with a 1-4-1 record and 49 points. We are 16 points out of the last Playoff spot. Bo has dropped out due to a back injury that is not healing. My new teammate is Alec (AJ) Drobnich. We were scheduled to play the High Handicappers (Eddie - 4 and Chris -14) however Chris did not show up so we both played Eddie. I received 15 strokes and AJ got 7. We won the match 14-7.

Hole Tenth hole is a 370 yard par 4 with a ravine at about 22o yards from the tee. I hit my Fairway wood about 175 yards down the left side of the fairway then hit the same club again to about 6 feet right of the green. From there I chipped on and two putted for a bogey and split the first hole.

Hole Eleventh hole is a 410 yard par 4 dogleg left. I hit my Fairway wood about 200 yards down the middle of the fairway then hit the same club again to the right rough about 45 yards from the green. I hit out on to the fairway off a tree backwards between AJ's legs then chipped close from 60 yards and three putted for a seven and lost the hole.

Hole Twelfth hole is a 379 yard par 4 dogleg left with a creek before the green. I hit my Fairway wood about 200 yards down the middle of the fairway then hit my eight Iron to about 100 yards from the green in just short of the creek. I then hit my wedge to about 10 feet in front of the green and chipped on and 4 putted for an eight and lost the hole.

The thirteenth hole is a 356 yard par 4 dogleg left. I hit my Fairway wood about 200 yards down the left side of the fairway to about 145 yards from the green then hit my six Iron 10 feet short of the green then chipped on and two putted for a bogey and won the hole.

The fourteenth hole is a 161 yard par 3 downhill. I Hit my 5 hybrid just over the back of the hole chipped on and two putted for a bogey and won the hole to tie the match 2.5-2.5

The fifteenth hole is a 490 yard par 5 with a 195 yard drive across a pond needed. I hit my Fairway wood about 200 yards across the pond and rolled back to 5 feet from the water. From their I hit my 3 hybrid to the left of the 150 stake and then I hit my 5 iron into a fairway trap and blasted out perfectly to about 10 feet past the pin and two putted for a bogey and my first lead in the match.

The sixteenth hole is a 151 yard par 3 with traps guarding the front of the green. I hit short and right leaving a trap between the pin and me. I hit a prefect Lob wedge and sank an eight foot putt for a par and won my fourth straight hole.

The seventeenth hole is a 348 yard par 4 uphill. I hit my Fairway wood about 175 down the right into the woods and dropped by the edge of the woods. Then hit a great fairway wood to the fringe and two putted for a bogey and won my match with 5.5 points. It started to rain as we played this hole.

The eighteenth hole is a 529 yard par 5 dog leg right with a creek 80 yards in front of the green. I hit my fairway wood short down the right and I hit my fairway wood a second time into the woods on the right and dropped on the edge of the fairway about 25 yards from the green. From there I hit my 5 iron to about 100 yards and chipped close to the green with my Pitching Iron. I dribbled on fromthe fringe and three putted for a 9 to end my best round of the season (52) with a nine and lost the hole but won the match 5.5-3.5.

Duke Golf League - Falls Village

I shot a 57. I only used my driver on the first hole and sliced it into the woods. I tried using my 5 iron only off tees for several holes then used my 3 wood for the last three holes. I did not lose any more balls but I still need to be able to chip and putt around the green to score.

First hole - Par 4 357 yards across a creek on the drive - I sliced my drive into the woods near the creek on the first hole. Then I dropped near the creek and hit my hybrid about 100 yards down the right side of the fairway. I was about 125 yards from the green on the right side and hit my 8 iron off the toe into the woods and lost my second ball on the first hole. I dropped near where the ball went into the woods and hit a lob wedge on to the green about 30 feet away. I then two putted for a snowman (8) to start the round. I put my driver away for the night.

Second hole - Par 4 373 yards across the pond - 5 iron cleared the water then 6 iron to 135 yards and a 7 iron to the hill behind the green where I chipped off the hill to the edge of the green about 45 feet above the hole and three putted for a triple bogey 7.

Third hole - Par 3 167 yards - hit my 5 hybrid to the front edge of the green and three putted for a 4. My best hole of the night and only bogey.

Fourth hole - Par 4 416 yards with a creek across the front of the green - I hit my 5 iron about 150 down the middle of the fairway and followed with a second 5 iron to the end of the fairway about 125 yards from the middle of the green. I hit my eight Iron about 5 yards short of the green then chipped on and 2 putted for a double bogey 6.

Fifth hole - Par 4 392 yards with a slight dogleg left - I hit my 5 iron down the middle about 150 yards and hit it again about 150 yards to 100 yards where I hit my pitching wedge on to the front of the green about 50 feet below the hole and three putted for double bogey 6.

Sixth hole - Par 3 174 yards sand traps across the front with a 15 foot opening to get on the green - I hit my 3 hybrid to the back of the green and the ball rolled past the green. I chipped barely on and three putted from 45 feet for a double bogey.

Seventh hole - par 5 dogleg right with a pond in front of the green - I hit my fairway wood (218 yards according to my Sky Caddie) hit my 5 hybrid 6 inches behind the ball and took my mulligan then curled one into the pond. dropped by the pond on the line where I went in and hit my 8 iron on to the green and three putted for another 7.

Eight hole - Par 4 403 yards over a creek about 160 yards from the tee - I hit my fairway wood about 163 yards then hit my 3 hybrid about 125 yards down the left side of the fairway. From there I hit an 8 iron to pin high just off the right side of the green where it hit the slope and bounced into the rough on the other side of the cart path. I chipped over the green and had to chip back then two putt for a triple bogey 7.

Ninth hole - Par 5 490 yards with a double dog leg right off the tee and left before the green - I hit my fairway wood about 100 yards short and right so I had to hit back into the fairway on my next shot and get out far enough to get around the first dogleg. I then hit another fairway wood down the middle of the fairway to about 100 yards from the green. From there I chipped into one of the traps on the right side of the hole then I chipped out and onto the green and two putted for a double bogey 7.

Honey Bee - Virginia Beach

Saturday my brother Bill and I played at Honey Bee in Virginia Beach. His wife is making my daughter wedding dress and they meet us at Caitlyns house for the weekend. The weather was great sunny in the low 80's. I shot a 95 with 4 pars and only one real bad hole a 9 on the 18th.

Thursday, April 24, 2008

Lochmere

I played Lochmere early Thursday morning. I was by myself and finished in three hours. I had a couple of pars and six bogey's during my round. I finished with a 93 playing from the white tees at 5632 yards. the weather was nice sunny and about 78.

Duke Golf League

Second round of the golf league. Both Bo and I showed up with our d- game and we lost 15.5-5.5. I shot a 58 with three 8's and was all over the place. It rained hard for a half hour before we teed off so everything was wet to start. On the first hole Bo attempted to kill us by driving/sliding/spinning down a 45 foot embankment on the side of the fairway. We stopped at the bottom of the hill when the cart hit the path.

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Duke Golf League week one

First round of the golf league. Bo & I played against Jim and Erik. We trailed by 5 strokes over all and 8 to 4 through the first 6 holes of our match. On the seventh hole Bo won with a par to Jim's double bogey and I won with a nine as Erik lost two balls and shot a 12. That was the turn around hole and we took the remaining two holes to win 10-8 and won the match by 5 strokes. I shot a 56 with a 9 on the seventh hole.

Falls Village - practice round

I was able to play Falls Village again this past Friday and again I scored horribly 117. I had a 10, 9, 8 and 4 7's. I think this is going to be a long golf season for me in my Duke PRMO Golf league. Playing from the Blue tees the course plays at 6400 yards and that means a lot of long irons or fairways woods into greens.

St James - Players & Members

My wife and I went to the beach this weekend and I was able to play two rounds of golf at St James Plantation. Saturday I shot a 105 on Players I had two pars during the round but followed each of them with a seven and eight and putted horribly (42 putts). On Sunday we played at the Members. We played the Front nine and the Cate as they have 27 holes on three different nines. I shot a 101 and putted much better on the back nine (16 Putts). It was cold and windy all weekend but it was good to be able to play two days in a row.

First time out - Falls Village -

I was able to play the course my golf league is going to play during the upcoming season with my boss and a couple of co workers. The conditions were not great but seeing the course will help during the upcoming season. It was 75 with a lot of wind (20-30 MPH) and overcast. The greens had been aerated about 10 days prior to us playing so they were a little uneven. The course has Bermuda grass that has not started to grow so the rough was not as rough as it will be as the season progresses. I also have obtained a new driver - NIKE Sumo – that will take me a few weeks to get used to.

Front Nine: I played 2 bad holes with triple bogeys and 2 horrible holes (9 & 10).
1st Hole: Blue 357 yards par 4. This is a straight hole to an undulating green that you do not want to go past the pin. My opening drive was just short of the fairway then I hit a fairway wood short of the green and I chipped on and two putted for a bogey 5.

2nd Hole: Blue 373 yards par 4. This hole requires a long shot across a pond leaving a second shot to a green surrounded by bunkers. I hit down on the ball and sank it in the lake. On my second drive I cleared the lake then hit my hybrid 3 to the fringe of the green and I chipped on and two putted for a triple bogey 7.

3rd Hole: Blue 167 yards par 3. This hole requires an accurate shot is needed with a deep bunker in front and steep drop off behind the green. My boss hit a hole in one with his seven iron. I however hit my 5 hybrid short and to the right of the green then chipped over the back then chipped on a two putted for double bogey 5.

4th Hole: Blue 416 yards par 4. A good drive is required on this hole to have a shot at the green. Stay short of the Pin to avoid a quick downhill putt. This was the first of several holes that I played horribly. I am trying to blot it from my memory. I carded a 9.

5th Hole: Blue 392 yards par 4. A slight dogleg left just about 150 yards from the Pin. Short drive followed by a fairway wood to about 100 yards from the green then chipped on and three putted for a 6.

6th Hole: Blue 174 yards par 3. A long green means adding or subtracting a club when the pin is in the back or the front of this long Par 3. Short of the green to the left chipped on and three putted for a 5.

7th Hole: Blue 480 yards par 5. A long drive still requires a long fairway shot to clear the pond in front of the green or lay up short of the pond and go for the green in three. I lost another ball in the water and ended up with my second bad hole carding an 8.

8th Hole: Blue 403 yards par 4. Avoid the hazard to the right and take an extra club hitting into this elevated green. Really bad hole carded a 10.

9th Hole: Blue 490 yards par 5. A Double dogleg requires two precise shots to make the green on this par 5. A short drive then a good fairway wood and a good 3 hybrid to about 20 yards from the green in the rough on the left then 2 chips to get on and 2 putts for a 7. Front nine 62.

Back Nine: I played a little better only 2 bad holes.
10th Hole: Blue 370 yards par 4. Stay short of the ravine on the drive or end up with severe downhill lie into the green. A short drive then a good fairway wood to about 20 yards from the green in the rough on the left then 2 chips to get on and 2 putts for a double bogey 6.

11th Hole: Blue 410 yards par 4. A long drive is required to clear the corner of the dogleg and another long fairway shot to clear the trap in front of the green. A short drive then a good fairway wood to about 20 yards from the green in the rough on the left then 2 chips to get on and 2 putts for a double bogey 6.

12th Hole: Blue 356 yards par 4. Keep your drive out of the three bunkers on the right side of the fairway so you have a shot that can clear the creek in front of the green. A short drive then a good fairway wood to about 20 yards from the green in the rough on the left then 2 chips to get on and 2 putts for a double bogey 6.

13th Hole: Blue 356 yards par 4. This hole requires is similar to the previous hole with no Creek but a green that slopes back to the fairway. A short drive then a good fairway wood to about 20 yards from the green in the rough on the left then 3 chips to get on and 2 putts for a triple bogey 7.

14th Hole: Blue 151 yards par 3. This is a long way down hill to the green. Just aim for the center of the green. Short of the green to the right chipped on and three putted for a double bogey 5.

15th Hole: Blue 480 yards par 5. Is it better to cross the pond on the short drive and have a 2 more shots to reach the green or come up short in an attempt to cross the pond on a long drive in an attempt to reach the green in 2? I crossed the pond on my drive and left about 375 to green hit a good fairway wood followed by another good fairway wood and then 2 chips to get on and 2 putts for a double bogey 7.

16th Hole: Blue 151 yards par 3. Do not let the mound in front of the green throw your distance judgment off. Short of the green to the left chipped on and three putted for a double bogey 5.

17th Hole: Blue 348 yards par 4. A downhill tee shot to a wide open fairway then make sure you do not come up short on the approach to the green. Quadruple bogey 8.

18th Hole: Blue 529 yards par 5. It will take two good shots to have a wedge into this green over a creek with bunkers all around it. Hit a good drive just short of the fairway then hit 2 good fairway woods to the fringe of the green then chipped on and 2 putted for a bogey 6. Back nine 56 for a total of 118.

Duke Golf League - 2008

The Duke PRMO SIM golf league is moving again. We started our first year with a short season at the Duke University Golf Club then we returned to Duke University Golf Club for the next year for a full season. We then moved to Willowhaven Country Club for a season before going back to Duke University Golf Club for a season then it was on to the Crossing Golf Club for a season and now we head to Falls Village. Now for a description of the course:

Front Nine: 1st Hole: Blue 357 yards par 4. Is a straight hole to an undulating green that you do not want to go past the Pin.

2nd Hole: Blue 373 yards par 4. This hole requires a long shot across a pond leaving a second shot to a green surrounded by bunkers.

3rd Hole: Blue 167 yards par 3. This hole requires an accurate shot is needed with a deep bunker in front and steep drop off behind the green.

4th Hole: Blue 416 yards par 4. A good drive is required on this hole to have a shot at the green. Stay short of the Pin to avoid a quick downhill putt.

5th Hole: Blue 392 yards par 4. A slight dogleg left just about 150 yards from the Pin.

6th Hole: Blue 174 yards par 3. A long green means adding or subtracting a club when the pin is in the back or the front of this long Par 3.

7th Hole: Blue 480 yards par 5. A long drive still requires a long fairway shot to clear the pond in front of the green or lay up short of the pond and go for the green in three.

8th Hole: Blue 403 yards par 4. Avoid the hazard to the right and take an extra club hitting into this elevated green.

9th Hole: Blue 490 yards par 5. A Double dogleg requires two precise shots to make the green on this par 5.

Back Nine: 10th Hole: Blue 370 yards par 4. Stay short of the ravine on the drive or end up with severe downhill lie into the green.

11th Hole: Blue 410 yards par 4. A long drive is required to clear the corner of the dogleg and another long fairway shot to clear the trap in front of the green.

12th Hole: Blue 356 yards par 4. Keep your drive out of the three bunkers on the right side of the fairway so you have a shot that can clear the creek in front of the green.

13th Hole: Blue 356 yards par 4. This hole requires is similar to the previous hole with no Creek but a green that slopes back to the fairway.

14th Hole: Blue 151 yards par 3. A long way down hill. Just aim for the center of the green.

15th Hole: Blue 480 yards par 5. Is it better to cross the pond and have a 2 more shots to reach the green or come up short in an attempt to reach the green in two?

16th Hole: Blue 151 yards par 3. Do not let the mound in front of the green throw your distance judgment off.

17th Hole: Blue 348 yards par 4. A downhill tee shot to a wide open fairway then make sure you do not come up short on the approach to the green.

18th Hole: Blue 529 yards par 5. It will take two good shots to have a wedge into this green over a creek with bunkers all around it.

2007 year in review

It was a good year and it was a bad year.

I was able to play 22 rounds for the year however in the spring I had some personnel issues and did not get out between Jan 20 and April 20.

My best round was mid summer at the Crossings where I shot a 48 and won my match by 8-1 however I started off with a 74 while losing 12 golf balls into various lakes on the course.

My Goals for the 2007 were:

Putt 31-33 per round actual 36
Fairways Hit - 10 8
GIR - 7 3
Score 92-98 105
Break 90 on a 6000+ yard course no
Pars per round - 2 >1
Birdie's per round - 1 >.5
Bogey's per round - 10 5
Double Bogey's per round - 5 10
Bad holes (triple Bogey or worse) - 0 1.5

I made none of my goals so they will be my goals again in 2008. I am coming to the conclusion that I need to practice more on everything with specific goals in mind not just hit a bucket of balls at lunch.

I shot a 69 at Knights Play par three course and another 97 at RGA Golf Course and finished the weekend with a 106 at Eagle RidgeGolf Course.

Labor Day weekend golf

Over the weekend I was able to play three times with my golfing buddy Wayne. I shot a 99 at St James Founders Golf Course and another 99 at Oak Island Golf Course and finished the weekend with a 106 at St James Players Golf Course. I lost 6 golf balls on the 15-17 holes at Players that contributed greatly to worst round of the weekend. The weather was great all weekend in the mid to low 80's with a breeze off the ocean.

Saturday we started on St James Founders course. On the 15th hole a 165 yard par 3 with a pond on the right hand side of the fairway to the green. I hit my 5 hybrid to about 6 feet from the pin and one putted for a birdee.

Sunday we played Oak Island course with our wifes. My wife noticed all the nice houses near the course. I had a couple of pars and about some sevens.

Monday we played on St James Players course. I had 4 pars and 4 snowmen on a real up and down day that totaled to a 106.

I hit my 5 Hybrid rescue club to three feet off the front of the green and chipped to within 4 feet and sank my uphill putt for a par 4.

The third hole is a 329 yard straight par 4 to an elevated green. My first drive went way right so I took my mulligan and hit it down the right side of the fairway into a stream. I took a drop near where my ball was and hit my rescue club into the trap on the right front of the green. I then chipped out of the trap over the green and then chipped back over the front of the green and finally chipped on the green and two putted for an 8.

The fourth hole is a 341 yard par 4 dogleg left. I hit my drive down the right side of the fairway and hit a fairway wood to the right of the green. From there I chipped over the front of the green and then chipped back on and two putted for a six.

The fifth hole is a 339 yard par 4 dogleg left. I hit a drive down the right again then hit a rescue club to about 105 yards in front of the green. from there I hit a great pitching wedge that hit the front of the green and bounced and rolled over the back of the green down a 50 foot embankment. I chipped over the front of the green stubbed a chip about 10 feet then chipped on and two putted for an eight.

The sixth hole is a 141 yard par 3 over a gully. I hit my drive to the right about 10 feet short of the green rolled down the hill into the woods, took drop where the ball went in and chipped on to the green and one putted for a bogey four.

The seventh hole is a downhill 383 yard dogleg left with a creek across the fairway about 150 yards to the hole. I hit my drive right near the cart path in a small treed area then hit my next shot into the creek. I dropped short of the creek and stubbed one just over the creek and stubbed two more before I got clear of the creek and then I hit one way right of the green lost it in the deep grass. I dropped near where I lost my ball and I chipped on and three putted for an eleven.

The Eighth hole is a 175 yard par 3 over a gully. I hit my drive to the right about 10 feet short of the green I chipped on and two putted for a bogey four.

The Ninth hole is a 485 yard dogleg left over the water twice par 5. I hit my drive to the right into the water and took a drop across the water (league Rule). I chipped down the fairway so i had a shot over the water again (125 across the water and 225 to the green) I hit to the right across the water into a nature conservancy area (another lost ball). I dropped near where it went into the nature conservancy area chipped to the green and two putted for an eight.

I shot a 59 and only lost 4 balls which was a huge improvement over the previous week. Next week we go back the ponds on the back nine.

Golf League - The Crossings - 4/17/07

Our SIM (Strike It More) golf league moved to a new course for this season mostly due to cost. Last year we played at Duke for $35 per nine with a cart. This year we are playing at The Crossings for $15 with a cart. The Crossings is an older course with plenty of woods and water to get in trouble in.

The season opened up Tuesday the 17th of April my our team playing the Blingers (League Champs from 2005) on the back nine using the blue tees.

The tenth hole is an uphill 367 par 4 dog leg right. My drive went right (this is the beginning of a theme) and landed in the trap on the right corner. I stubbed it to the other end of the trap and then popped it out of the trap to 130 yards from the green. I hit a7 Iron to the right of the green and chipped on and two putted an eight.

The eleventh hole is a downhill 465 yard par 5 dog leg right. My drive went right again and was lost in the woods. I dropped in the fairway (league rule) and hit down the hill next to a pond about 125 yards I hit another one to the right and lost it in the woods so I dropped just short of the creek before the green on the right and sculled it into a bush behind the green. I took a drop and two putted for a ten.

The twelfth hole is a 131 yard par 3 to an island green. My first drive went right and as I was swinging for my second attempt my "partner" was yelling something about a mulligan (league rule) so I proceeded to skull it into the lake again. I dropped in the drop area and proceeded to hit another into the water so I dropped on the edge of the green and two putted for an eight.

The thirteenth hole is a straight 360 yard par 4 with a pond and creek down the entire right side of the fairway. I hit two from the tee directly into the pond on the right and then dropped at the beginning of the fairway and hit another into the creek on the right side of the fairway. I dropped near the creek 140 yards from the green lying 6 and chipped near the green then chipped on and three putted for an eleven.

The fourteenth hole is a straight 369 yard hole back along the same creek and pond as the previous hole. I hit a drive down the right into the pond and dropped in the fairway the proceeded to hit a fairway wood straight to about 20 feet short of the green on the right side (I was starting on the right side) for my first decent shot of the night. I chipped on and three putted for a seven and won my first hole of the night.

The fifteenth hole is a 197 yard par 3 pretty much all carry with a pond down the left side. I hit my drive to the right about 20 yards short of the green and chipped on and two putted for a five to win my second hole of the night.

The sixteenth hole is a straight 432 yard with a creek across the fairway about 190 yards and woods down both sides. I hit my drive deep into the woods on the right then hit my next shot into the creek. I dropped short of the creek and hit another good fairway wood about 30 yards short of the green and I chipped on and three putted for a nine and won my third straight hole.

The Seventeenth hole is a straight 485 yard par 5 that I do not remember at all except I had another none and split the hole so I was down 4.5 to 3.5 going into the last hole. I was on my way to shooting my worst nine holes (74) in as long as I can remember and I still had a decent chance to split the match.

The eighteenth hole is a 364 yard downhill par 4. I hit my drive to the right into a trap. I chipped out of the trap to about 140 yards downhill. from there I hit my 7 iron to pin high on the right side of the green about 3 feet from the group ahead of us who were waiting and watching us finish our round. I sculled my wedge completely across the green and chipped back with a two putt for a 7 and lost the final hole.
