I was able to play the course my golf league is going to play during the upcoming season with my boss and a couple of co workers. The conditions were not great but seeing the course will help during the upcoming season. It was 75 with a lot of wind (20-30 MPH) and overcast. The greens had been aerated about 10 days prior to us playing so they were a little uneven. The course has Bermuda grass that has not started to grow so the rough was not as rough as it will be as the season progresses. I also have obtained a new driver - NIKE Sumo – that will take me a few weeks to get used to.
Front Nine: I played 2 bad holes with triple bogeys and 2 horrible holes (9 & 10).
st Hole: Blue 357 yards par 4. This is a straight hole to an undulating green that you do not want to go past the pin. My opening drive was just short of the fairway then I hit a fairway wood short of the green and I chipped on and two putted for a bogey 5.
nd Hole: Blue 373 yards par 4. This hole requires a long shot across a pond leaving a second shot to a green surrounded by bunkers. I hit down on the ball and sank it in the lake. On my second drive I cleared the lake then hit my hybrid 3 to the fringe of the green and I chipped on and two putted for a triple bogey 7.
rd Hole: Blue 167 yards par 3. This hole requires an accurate shot is needed with a deep bunker in front and steep drop off behind the green. My boss hit a hole in one with his seven iron. I however hit my 5 hybrid short and to the right of the green then chipped over the back then chipped on a two putted for double bogey 5.
th Hole: Blue 416 yards par 4. A good drive is required on this hole to have a shot at the green. Stay short of the Pin to avoid a quick downhill putt. This was the first of several holes that I played horribly. I am trying to blot it from my memory. I carded a 9.
th Hole: Blue 392 yards par 4. A slight dogleg left just about 150 yards from the Pin. Short drive followed by a fairway wood to about 100 yards from the green then chipped on and three putted for a 6.
th Hole: Blue 174 yards par 3. A long green means adding or subtracting a club when the pin is in the back or the front of this long Par 3. Short of the green to the left chipped on and three putted for a 5.
th Hole: Blue 480 yards par 5. A long drive still requires a long fairway shot to clear the pond in front of the green or lay up short of the pond and go for the green in three. I lost another ball in the water and ended up with my second bad hole carding an 8.
th Hole: Blue 403 yards par 4. Avoid the hazard to the right and take an extra club hitting into this elevated green. Really bad hole carded a 10.
th Hole: Blue 490 yards par 5. A Double dogleg requires two precise shots to make the green on this par 5. A short drive then a good fairway wood and a good 3 hybrid to about 20 yards from the green in the rough on the left then 2 chips to get on and 2 putts for a 7. Front nine 62.
Back Nine: I played a little better only 2 bad holes.
th Hole: Blue 370 yards par 4. Stay short of the ravine on the drive or end up with severe downhill lie into the green. A short drive then a good fairway wood to about 20 yards from the green in the rough on the left then 2 chips to get on and 2 putts for a double bogey 6.
th Hole: Blue 410 yards par 4. A long drive is required to clear the corner of the dogleg and another long fairway shot to clear the trap in front of the green. A short drive then a good fairway wood to about 20 yards from the green in the rough on the left then 2 chips to get on and 2 putts for a double bogey 6.
th Hole: Blue 356 yards par 4. Keep your drive out of the three bunkers on the right side of the fairway so you have a shot that can clear the creek in front of the green. A short drive then a good fairway wood to about 20 yards from the green in the rough on the left then 2 chips to get on and 2 putts for a double bogey 6.
th Hole: Blue 356 yards par 4. This hole requires is similar to the previous hole with no Creek but a green that slopes back to the fairway. A short drive then a good fairway wood to about 20 yards from the green in the rough on the left then 3 chips to get on and 2 putts for a triple bogey 7.
th Hole: Blue 151 yards par 3. This is a long way down hill to the green. Just aim for the center of the green. Short of the green to the right chipped on and three putted for a double bogey 5.
th Hole: Blue 480 yards par 5. Is it better to cross the pond on the short drive and have a 2 more shots to reach the green or come up short in an attempt to cross the pond on a long drive in an attempt to reach the green in 2? I crossed the pond on my drive and left about 375 to green hit a good fairway wood followed by another good fairway wood and then 2 chips to get on and 2 putts for a double bogey 7.
th Hole: Blue 151 yards par 3. Do not let the mound in front of the green throw your distance judgment off. Short of the green to the left chipped on and three putted for a double bogey 5.
th Hole: Blue 348 yards par 4. A downhill tee shot to a wide open fairway then make sure you do not come up short on the approach to the green. Quadruple bogey 8.
th Hole: Blue 529 yards par 5. It will take two good shots to have a wedge into this green over a creek with bunkers all around it. Hit a good drive just short of the fairway then hit 2 good fairway woods to the fringe of the green then chipped on and 2 putted for a bogey 6. Back nine 56 for a total of 118.
