First round 2006 - Devils Ridge
Today I played my first round of 2006 at Devils Ridge in Holly Springs. We played from the Blue Tees at a distance of 6500 yards.
The conditions were cool (60) and windy (20-30 MPH) but I was golfing and not at work so everything was good.
The course is still in winter conditions with the fairways and greens more brown than green so we got a lot of roll and the greens would not hold anything.
I shot a 102 overall which is pretty good for me since I have not played since November.
I hit 5 fairways and made 3 GIR's. What really killed me was 40 putts a 4 putt and three 3 putts pushed over my goal of staying under 100 every round.
I expect to play twice this coming weekend at St James Plantation in Southport, NC.

Hi Fran! I'm happy to see a post, and one about you getting out and playing. I just started golfing in June 2005, and I'm just now starting to stay below 100.
One of the big things that helps your putting is to be sure to putt on the practice green for 15 minutes or so before your round. When I do this, I am concentrating on getting the speed right and not so much on getting it into the hole. If you have a good feel for the speed of the greens, you can eliminate alot of the 3 and 4 putts.
Looking forward to reading about your progress this season.
